Times of Change

It is a great time of year. The leaves are changing colors; the temperature is going up and down. Every few days a blast of cool air comes in to remind us that winter is not far away. Families are making plans for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. You can almost smell the pecan and pumpkin pie in the air.
It is also a wonderful season to be a part of the family of FBC Grandview. There are some great changes happening in our midst. One of those is the work of our Remodeling Committee. This committee has worked very hard and prayed faithfully over how to beautify the Lord’s house in which we worship each week. They have laughed together, struggled together, agreed and disagreed over many decisions but they are almost done. The hope was to have a presentation ready for the church this month but we have hit a few snags recently and so perhaps in December the plan will be ready for presentation. I hope that you will continue to pray for each person on this committee as they work together to do what is pleasing in the Lord’s sight.
The last time that the sanctuary had anything major done to it was when it was built in 1963 and so it is time for this to happen. As a church we have done a wonderful job of renovating the rest of the building and now it is time for us to move forward with this major project. There is already a large sum of money in the bank to pay for this project but there is still a need to raise funds. I want to challenge you to be praying about what part you might play in making our sanctuary beautiful for years to come. I was going to wait to make this plea until after the plans were presented to you but I realize that as the end of the year approaches perhaps some of you will be looking for that end of the year donation for tax purposes. I hope that you will consider this project when you are doing so. For others maybe you just want to make a commitment on a weekly or monthly basis to help with the construction costs. Whatever you do let me encourage you make your gift above and beyond your weekly tithe. Any time a church goes into a building program it can be dangerous because people will give to the building fund and the day to day budget needs of the church will suffer. Let’s not let that happen. Let’s seek to please God through this season of change at FBC.
What an exciting time for our church as we embark on this season in the long life of First Baptist Grandview. I know that you are going to be excited when you see the proposal and the fruits of this committee’s hard work over the past year. Most of all I pray that through this process we bring glory to our Father in whom we are privileged to serve.
