I Need Your Attention
Boy, have things changed at the Preacher’s house! Shelly and I have gone from a zone defense with Cameron to a man to man defense with Cameron and Easton. We are so blessed to have two precious children who are healthy and beautiful. Over the past three weeks however things have changed quite a bit.
One of the major changes has been in Cameron. He went from being the main attraction to being the big brother. The behavior I have noticed most is his desire for attention. He has several ways of getting our attention to make sure we know he is still around. He may speak in a louder tone of voice, jump on the furniture, or any number of other things that he knows he is not supposed to do. While I was taking vacation time, one of the great moments in his young life happened. He and I were in the backyard playing on Wednesday evening. He heard everyone going to church and asked if we were. I told him we were not going tonight. He began asking why and begging to please be able to go. I did the only thing I knew to do. We went to church. How could I tell him we were not?
There are a couple of challenges I met while facing Cameron’s actions. First of all, I thought about my relationship with God, my Heavenly Father. How often does God have to “jump up and down on the couch” or scream at me to get my attention? In the same way that Cameron wants to get my attention, God wants our attention even more! What lengths does He have to go to get your attention when He needs you to do something for Him or just to spend time with Him? The good news is that we always have God’s attention. I just wonder how often He has ours.
The other item I was challenged with by Cameron’s actions was his desire to be with other people at church. You all know how much of a social butterfly Cameron is and how much he loves people, but it just amazed me his drive to want to be at church. Nothing that I could offer him on that Wednesday night was going to satisfy him unless I took him to church. I was convicted about my attitude when it comes time to go to church. I look forward to coming to worship and Sunday School, but do I look forward to it like Cameron did? That is a good question for us all. Do we feel like nothing else can satisfy us like church can? I hope that is a challenge to you to DESIRE to be in God’s house.
Over the last few weeks we have seen some great things happen in our midst here at FBC. We had a wonderful Easter Sunday, and this past week we had 341 in worship as the Zebra Performance Strings led us in worship. What great times of worship we have had, but there is even more in store. This coming Sunday evening Cliff Hackler will be here to give a concert for us by playing his saxophone. I hope you will be here to be blessed. Then the first Sunday in May we will be having Disciple Now weekend. There will be well over 100 students in worship that Sunday morning. BJ McMichael will be preaching for us that morning as we wrap up a great weekend. Please be praying for Daniel and the students that this weekend will be a life changing event!
Let’s strive to give God our attention and be anxious to worship Him daily!
